a rare neck piece dropped in Karazhan

The agony of DKP

Last night, a rare neck piece dropped in Karazhan that wasn't on my wish list, but was a nice upgrade for me. We were heading for Oz and I really wanted the Ruby Slippers, but of course there was no guarantee they would drop. Do I take the neck piece or save the DKP for the slippers? I went ahead and took the neck piece (+51 shadow damage) and the slippers didn't drop. I would have been kicking myself if they had, though. So has anyone ever spent their DKP on something that was a nice upgrade, only to have something they REALLY wanted drop in the next fight?

That's subjective to the guild though, some smaller, casual guilds only raid Karazhan.

To the OP, you have to make tough decisions sometimes, but ultimately, the onus is on yourself...sometimes, you get that item you want, and sometimes, you spend your DKP on something else, and you don't have enough DKP for the item you want. It's really something that is totally in your control.

Nope. Kara is a non-DKP zone for us, but in MC and BWL I bid on anything that was a substantial upgrade without worrying about what the next boss might drop.

We're using DKP in Gruul's Lair but I won't run into that situation there. I'm a holy priest and already got the tier 4 shoulders from HKM. I'll take the Tier 4 pants uncontested, but I'm not going to bid on them because Netherspite was kind enough to drop the Pantaloons of Repentance, and I've invested a lot into them in the form of gems + exalted healing thread.

Heck, I'm not even using the Tier 4 shoulders all the time because I need the MP5 set bonus from the Primal Mooncloth set, the only substantial boost that the tier 4 shoulders give me is stamina, and without the shoulders I still have two Tier 4 pieces for the lame set bonus (when we start killing Mag and I get the robe I'll think about wearing four pieces).

The Teeth of Gruul aren't worth spending DKP on over the Necklace of Eternal Hope.

The one thing I would bid on in Gruul's is the Eye of Gruul trinket, so basically I don't have your dilemma there.

MC was a joke. I joined the raid right when we beat Majordomo for the first time, so there was a core of priests ahead of me who already had a decent set of gear. Then Prophecy drops dried up. I literally went months without any upgrades, so I didn't hesitate to spend DKP on a ring or a trinket.

One day three pieces of Prophecy dropped and I still had so much DKP that I got them all.

We use DKP in Karazhan, and like any other instance after its on perma-farm status as we move forward we use DKP and "CAWU" or "Can And Will Use" rolling.

Basically when something drops, everyone has an option to bid DKP on it. Standard DKP rules, blah blah blah.

If no one bids, it goes to CAWU where anyone who wants it can roll, highest roll wins, no cost to DKP.

Been a good system for us.

In a guild that I was in when I raided, we rolled on things that were an upgrade in kara. I would ask who was going to roll, and bribe them with some gold not to, so that I would get my item.

Worked wonderfully for me. (The few times that I raided and loot dropped that I could use =\ )

The original question posed was: So has anyone ever spent their DKP on something that was a nice upgrade, only to have something they REALLY wanted drop in the next fight?

I was the opposite person, the guy who would horde his dkp until the item I wanted dropped to the exclusion of other items. Most of the time this worked out for me. Ahn'Qiraj Ripper dropped once for my guild and I had it... I ended up getting most of the other drops for far less dkp than my guildmates paid because there was no competition for the items.

I can't think of a good reason why karazhan should be DKP.

That's the expansion UBRS.

Back in the day Ubrs/Scholo/Strath were 2nd tier instances. I don't remember if they were ever 40 mans capable (actually just not limited) before they were reduced to 15 man, but 15 man runs in those instances were still tough. They toned down the number of mobs and the bosses.

Back in the day purples were EXTREMELY rare and to have the Dungeon 1 set was pretty impressive. Dal'Rend set was godly.

ODL is still the best all around system if your officers aren't total asshats.

I started playing WoW about 5 months after its release. When I first did UBRS I was 58 and it was one of the easier instance I ran through. It has always been a 15 man instance before the patch and I'm not sure how much has changed in UBRS since I started playing (got to 58 in like 2 weeks of playing) but it was really easy. Oh, and I pugged it I'd say 90% of the time and got the devout pieces quickly.
